Hi there. So i just grabbed my phone and had a research on “The only exception’s meaning”, and i accidentally found this:

This is the first love song I’ve ever written. And even if I’ve tried in the past, this is the first one that I’m really proud of. I like that I was able to express the fact that I have always been really afraid of love—and I still am at times—but the excitement and the hope that it exists is still very evident in the lyrics. So it’s not like I’m a total cynic! Love is a good thing, kids.”

– Hayley.

yes. the lyric of this song is Hayley William’s heartfelt confession. What a coincidence. My english name is Hayley, and i love this red-haired girl to bits. and guess what, i’ve listened to The Only Exception millions times. and it still tears me up every-single-time. because it expresses EXACTLY what i feel about love, how i have seen in my life, how i conceive and how coward yet so despise i am to love.

The lyric is heart-wrenching. And so is the slow acoustic pace. Just like a boring, uneventful life as the lyric says

“And i always live like this
Keeping a comfortable distance
And up until now i’ve sworn to myself that im contented
With loneliness … ”

No one can understand this story as good as me. I can feel every-single-word she sings. How she feels, how it is like in her inner world. The inner world full of sadness and heartbreaking memories. Divorce, it affects a child’s ideology more than anything.
